These three sequential discourses highlight a traditional interpretation of Patanjali's Yogasutra aphorisms on establishing Iśwara samāpatti (engrossment in godliness). Yogasutra aphorisms 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 32 of chapter-1; 44 and 45 of chapter-2 are explained in the light of sage Vyāsa’s exposition. In these classes, His Holiness Swami Vidyadhishananda explains how to apply Iśwara-praṇidhāna (a special devotion to God) by choosing one of the three methods: invocation of God through a name or a mantra, conception of an adorable form of God that is sanctioned by Sanskrit scriptures, or an ideation of formless abounding God inside the heart. Engrossment and the subsequent concentration herein is dependent upon the sublimation of devotion that attracts the tangible experience of abhidhyāna (palpable grace from Iśwara). His Holiness delineates egoism, egotism, I-sense, completeness of subtle feeling in the heart and engrossment on one principle. He further expounds on how a devotee is able to mature an engrossment in godliness to a sublime merging in God.
